Effective 1st June, 2014, the State Government of Penang has communicated that a compulsory Council Tax of MYR 3 per occupied room per night shall be applied throughout the state of Penang. Kindly be advised that the hotels will be collecting this Fee directly from the hotel guests upon check-out.
Please be informed, with effect from 1 September 2017, the mandatory Tourism Tax RM10 will be imposed on all hotel room rates on a per room per night basis to be paid by every staying guest at all hotels/service residences (foreign nationals). This is in addition to all prevailing fees, taxes & service charges. Tourism Tax is collected on behalf of the Ministry of Finance Malaysia and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and it is mandatory by law (subject to change depending on implementation)
